We’re Not In Canada Anymore

We’re Not In Canada Anymore

Actually we technically are still in Canada, but at the Niagara Falls, a stones throw away from the US border. In fact the border actually splits the Niagara river, so we actually pass between both countries several times over our 2 day stay. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind (or whirlpool even). Niagara falls, whilst being a breathtaking natural landmark, it also happens to be a very popular destination for Canadian, American and tourists from further a field. Hundreds…

Today is a packed itinerary. First we will head up the CN Tower, once the tallest building in the world when built in 1976. Then we will visit Casa Loma, and if we have time end the day with a little history of a few million years at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) You can’t miss the CN Tower, but still manage to get lost on the way, navigating through the complex system of skywalks, underground walk ways (dubbed PATH)…

I don’t know how it happened but we are running 37 minutes late!

I don’t know how it happened but we are running 37 minutes late!

Is the announcement made by the train manager as we pull into Kingston on our mammoth train jouney between Quebec City and Toronto. As we are going to spend most of the days in our bums we decide to walk to the train station,  the streets are quiet at this time in the morning and its downhill all the way its a far easier walk than on our arrival. We board the train and are soon speeding our way through…

Bon Voyage

Bon Voyage

Upon arriving in Quebec we notice that several roads have barriers at their edges. We soon discover that is because today is the 2024 Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. It also happens to be the day the blue collar workers of the city are on strike. Even our guide for our walking tour is thrown off as we try to navigate via striking workers and closed off roads. It makes for a rememberable morning, as we catch the occasional glimpse…

Today started with one of the free tours offered by the Hotel, The Saint Laurent River Tour. We make our way from the hotel through the streets of Quebec City and board the boat across the River, before returning to the Petit Chamblin, considered as one of the most picturesque streets in North America. Our tour guide tells us that in the 1960s the street was left derelict and the government were considering tearing it down to out up a …

An early start finds us heading to Quebec City on the VIA Rail. The 3hrs passes quickly as we watch the Canadian scenery pass by, and are served breakfast, a first for me on a train. Google tells us that the walk to our hotel is a 20 minute, mostly flat stroll. As we check in, having lugged our cases up hills steeper than any at Mount Royal, our receptionist simply laughs ‘yeah right’ as we tell her this. It…

Our itinerary today is a trip to the Jardine Botanique, boasted as one of the finest Botanical gardens in the world. It’s a bit further out of the city so we opt to take an Uber.       We spend the morning walking around the different gardens. We particularly enjoy the China gardens. We can’t seem to find the Jardin Japonais, It’s meant to be one of the biggest outside Japan how do we keep missing it! Finally we…

Coin Détente

Coin Détente

We start the morning in a more relaxed manner, after a simple bagel and scrambled egg breakfast, we stock up on fruit and water and head to the duck pond. In a stark contrast to yesterday we sit in the sun and enjoy the warmth and peace whilst the ducks also enjoy breakfast. A decision is made to board the sight seeing bus tour, so we spend a couple of hours on the top deck of what looks like an…

Jet lag getting the better of us we wake up early. First port of call a morning swim. Its cold today the weather is not set to get above 12 degrees Our plan for today is to head to Mont Royal, a free for all park with some impressive views of the city. A quick google suggests the easiest way for us to get to the park is via bus, however getting a ticket seems difficult so we consult with…
