The trip is coming to an end as we today cross the border to the final state California.

Having survived the night at the Motel, breakfast is served at Walgreen’s (the supermarket by the motel!)

We head off on the most interesting drive, described as hair raising by the guide book, Vic holds on tight as we wind our way up and down the Arizona desert.

Oatman is a ‘ghost’ town, home to the wild Burro’s, tourist shops and staged gun fights.

We stop to feed the Burro and watch the gun fight, an ice cream provides a rest from the 41c desert sun.

A long drive through the desert into California provides some great views, and a stop at the Bottle Ranch along the way proves an unexpected highlight, more than just a dumping ground for old bottles!

Our bed for the night is at the Wigwam motel, only 1 of 2 still on Route 66. Again a 50s throw back, but full of charm and friendly owner’s.

Tommorow LA is our home for 2 days, we expect more hair raising driving!
