Heading to the Cape

Heading to the Cape

We didn’t have that many breakfasts in Boston, but of the ones we go to did we enjoyed Mike’s the most, so we head back their before we depart from Boston.

We say Goodbye to Boston as we head to pick up our our rental car, a black Ford Fusion Titanium. Boston airport seems one of the easier airports to drive from, it helps that Chris is now so skilled in the art of American driving that we are able navigate easily onto the interstate towards Cape Cod.

It’s a short drive from Boston to Harwich Port, our base for our time on Cape Cod. We are staying in a little bed and breakfast called Inn on the Beach, and as the name suggests it is on the beach, it’s own private beach in fact. We also find out that we are one of three couple staying this week(although it will get busy on Friday as it is memorial weekend they have a public holiday Monday like us in the UK) so we almost have it too ourselves.

We take a short stroll into the town to stock up on supplies, before spending the evening on the deck watching the sunset.

When we told people we were heading to Cape Cod, everyone said you must head to Provincetown (or P-town as it is often called) so we make that our outing for the day.

P-town is on the very northern tip of Cape code. It was the the very 1st place the pilgrims stopped when they made their way to the New World! However they realised it was not suitable to settle their due to the sandy soil, so they reboarded the boat and headed to an area better suited to settling- which they called Plymouth. Since they had left from Plymouth England. Whilst in P-town though the pilgrims did write up the Mayflower Compact, a set of rules that they would abide by when they settled.

P-town was once an important whale fishing area, but today it is heavily artistic area as well as a major tourist destination.

We spend a few hours walking around, looking at the various shops and galleries. It’s what is known as shoulder season here on Cape Cod so not everything is open. It suits Chris and I though as the weather is beautiful and it’s not too busy.

In the main skyline of P-town is a huge monument, known as the pilgrim monument so we head up to see it close upwhen, when we arrive we find you can walk to the top. So we climb the stairs (and ramps.. it’s so much easier than the Beacon Hill Monument. The views are spectacular.

We arrive back to the hotel and once again spend the evening watching the sunset on the deck with some Local beers.
