First Base
Today is a packed itinerary. First we will head up the CN Tower, once the tallest building in the world when built in 1976. Then we will visit Casa Loma, and if we have time end the day with a little history of a few million years at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)
You can’t miss the CN Tower, but still manage to get lost on the way, navigating through the complex system of skywalks, underground walk ways (dubbed PATH) and the usual busy cross walks.
Still it’s not long before we are treated to breathtaking views over the city from our 1146ft vantage point. We also bump into our first Frank Turner fans of the holiday. We’ve never spoken but we have actually seen them several times on planes and gigs in Southampton before. I think they have been to every Lost Evenings like us. They are also planning on visiting Niagara for a few days, we might see them again.
Back down the tower and it’s on the subway to Casa Loma. We walk past the Blue Jays stadium, under the CN Tower. Today is the final of a 3 series of games against the Cardinals. I stop for a picture under First Base.
The main thing I learnt at our next stop Casa Loma, is that it was owned by a rich man who got lucky investing in mining and hydro-power. Then he spent it all building Casa Loma, and lost all his money by the time of his death he had moved in with his chauffeur. The house has been used in recent times for filming many movies, and watching the scenes from X-Men Vic claims this is the best bit of the tour.
After a few hours here we are due to visit ROM before it closes, we have heard the dinosaurs are a must see, so make sure to view the remains of the 75 million year old remains.
A long day, but it’s not over yet. We have a special meal booked at Avelo. A Vegan restaurant where you can only book their 5 or 8 course menu. We have opted for their 8 course.
An unforgettable evening is spent in an old Victorian home, being brought increasingly confusing items, carefully explained by our waiters for the evening.
Tomorrow we do not know what we are doing, or it turns out, how we are getting to Niagara falls the day after. Let’s hope it all works out.
