Wanting to ensure we completed our must do in San Francisco list we rise early and head to to the historic cable car stop on Market and Powell.  Beating the queues we enjoy the ride through the various neighbourhoods including China Town untill its final stop near fisherman’s wharf. Tummy’s rumbling we spot a sign for Pats Cafe so head in for breakfast.  Chris is pleased as they offer Corned Beef Hash one of his American Breakfast Favourites. After a…

Do you know the way to San Jose

Do you know the way to San Jose

Fuelled by the hotel’s bagel bar breakfast the day starts with a stroll to Carmel’s beach.   The crash of the waves breaking was actually quite relaxing  and we stand for a while just soaking in the atmosphere.  The walk back to the hotel sees us picking up a significant otter to keep us company for the remainder of our journey. On route to San Fransico we stop at the Computer History Museum  in Silicon Valley.  We join the tour…

Greetings from Springfield

Greetings from Springfield

Our Lyft driver obviously can sense we are not in a talkative mood at this time in the morning,  as he drives us into Hollywood to Universal Studios,  after a little bit of confusion we are dropped at the guest drop off point and make our way down the City Walk and head into the Park. Having realised when we prebooked our tickets that it was labour day weekend we upgraded our tickets to “front of the line ” which…

California or Bust

California or Bust

Or probably both. .. The trip is coming to an end as we today cross the border to the final state California. Having survived the night at the Motel, breakfast is served at Walgreen’s (the supermarket by the motel!) We head off on the most interesting drive, described as hair raising by the guide book, Vic holds on tight as we wind our way up and down the Arizona desert. Oatman is a ‘ghost’ town, home to the wild Burro’s,…

Let the Coyote’s Feed Themselves

Let the Coyote’s Feed Themselves

This was the advice that greeted us upon entering Grand Canyon National Park. Not long after we were staring over the side of one of the natural wonders of world. The Grand Canyon …. A massive (over 200 miles long and 10 miles wide) hole in the ground carved over 50 million years by the Colorado River. We spent a day and night here and watched the sunrise and set, took many picture’s, and still only got a small taste…

And don’t forget Winona!

And don’t forget Winona!

Leaving Gallup and New Mexico behind we were soon in Arizona. Most of the day was spent exploring the Painted Desert and Petrified forest.  We drove the 26 mile route stopping of at the various waypoints along they way including doing a few walks.  It is extremely hard to put into words the beauty of the area and I am not sure the pictures will do it justice.  But there was a lot of wows from me as we drove…

We’re not in Kanas any more!

We’re not in Kanas any more!

Its been a long 2 days. Tuesday started with a trip up the Saint Louis arch.  You travel to the top in a small pod, it was a bit hair raising! Leaving St Louis we stopped off for some Ted Drewes Frozen Custard… Keeping in the spirit of the road we had “root 66” (root beer and malt chocolate)  flavour and I must say it was quite yummy! Today was my 1st time driving and I must say I am…
