Dogs and Elephants Only Watering Hole

Dogs and Elephants Only Watering Hole

A morning run starts our day, as we rise in Cambria. Its our coldest start at 7am by the coast, California does not get warm until the sun rises.  Our early start is rewarded by at least one unusual sight. A group of dolphins is clearly visible as we approach the sea. We may have also seen a sea otter, but they prove to be rather elusive. The wildlife spotting continues during our drive along the coast and the ‘Big…

Drive Away, To Malibu

Drive Away, To Malibu

Today brought the start of our road trip traveling north up the Pacific Highway to San Fransisco.   Packing up our suitcases and checking out of the Palihouse we say farewell to Santa Monica we head  to the car hire centre at LAX.   After completing the administration process with little pleasantries we were soon stood in front of a vast array of SUVs of which we had to pick which one we would want to drive for the next…

Greetings from Springfield

Greetings from Springfield

Our Lyft driver obviously can sense we are not in a talkative mood at this time in the morning,  as he drives us into Hollywood to Universal Studios,  after a little bit of confusion we are dropped at the guest drop off point and make our way down the City Walk and head into the Park. Having realised when we prebooked our tickets that it was labour day weekend we upgraded our tickets to “front of the line ” which…

California Gulls

California Gulls

Another unforgettable day in Santa Monica. We are up nice and early to a slightly overcast morning.  We still breakfast outside, as even a ‘bad  day’ here is like the best British summer you can remember. Grabbing some beach towels and a Palihouse Frisbee. Its a short walk to the sandy shores. Its nice and quiet at this time and the sun is starting to peak through the clouds. I make a dash for the sea and its initially shockingly…

24 Hours In LA

24 Hours In LA

Having just woken up 7am LA time, we work out that we must have been awake for 24hrs yesterday. Of course most of those were not spent in LA, 11hrs flying and several meals later, we finally reach LA airport, to pedicatable sunny weather. A surprisingly smooth ride through  customs, we are then thrust into the chaos of departures. We are not in a good state for the confusion that follows as we attempt to communicate with our ‘Lyft’ driver…

California Dreamin’

California Dreamin’

Less than 24 hours to go until we land on the West coast. A last minute bit of stress almost meant that the blog might not go a head as we both forgot our passwords. It felt a bit to much like my day job to be hunting down database logins to ‘hack’ our passwords. We will now attempt to get some sleep and do some ‘California Dreamin’. It now feels we have too much to do, see and eat…

West Coast Countdown

West Coast Countdown

2 years, 1 month and 22 days ago we left America after our 2 weeks travelling the ‘Mother Road’. Leaving behind the sunny beach of Santa Monica was a sad end to an amazing road trip. On that day we vowed to return as soon as possible. In 13 days we will land in LAX to start a new adventure. This time travelling the West Coast of the USA. Beginning our trip from were we left last time, Santa Monica,…

Next Stop…

Next Stop…

Seattle! No we haven’t extended the holiday, now reliant on planes and the rather useless BA to get us home, we are currently waiting in Sea Tac airport waiting to transfer home! So in the meantime what did we do yesterday? Deciding that we’d done enough driving, the theme park was off the cards, so a bus trip taking in the sights of LA, including a stop at Hollywood to see the walk of fame and Chinese Theatre.   We…

They say video games don’t teach you anything!

The day started out with a trip to the unofficial Mcdonalds museum at the site of the 1st ever Mcdonalds resturant. Then we set off for the final time.Down route 66 through LA to Santa Monica.  The journey was the polar opposite from the previous days journey through the desert..fast paced, busy will a lot of impatient drivers.  Chris kept his cool and we made it to the end of route 66 and our final stop Santa Monica. Having clocked…

California or Bust

California or Bust

Or probably both. .. The trip is coming to an end as we today cross the border to the final state California. Having survived the night at the Motel, breakfast is served at Walgreen’s (the supermarket by the motel!) We head off on the most interesting drive, described as hair raising by the guide book, Vic holds on tight as we wind our way up and down the Arizona desert. Oatman is a ‘ghost’ town, home to the wild Burro’s,…
